Review: Spa Experience in Welwyn Garden City

Mums Off Duty, Spa Experience in Welwyn

I had no idea there was a spa at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn, so when Spa Experience got in touch and asked if I’d like to do a review, I jumped at the chance. Life has been hectic coming up to the end of the school year, and a bit of me-time was just what I needed.

Spa Experience in Welwyn

Mums Off Duty, Spa Experience in Welwyn

Spa Experience is owned by Better, with day spas in London and surrounding areas.

It aims to make day spas accessible and affordable for the whole community. I’m totally on board with this. We ALL deserve to have a spa day every now and then to recharge our batteries, and it shouldn’t have cost the earth. It’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity, right?!!

Spa Experience in Welwyn offers Elemis and La Sultane de Saba products for skincare, and CND for nails.

Treat yourself in your lunch hour

Spa Experience has recently launched its Summer Essentials Lunch Hour Treatments – pretty self-explanatory really! Pre and post-sun treatments that can be fitted neatly into your lunch hour. Perfect for busy people.

I’m sharing the treatments below straight from the press release so that you can see what they offer:

Pre-sun – £25 for 25 minute treatment

Body Pumice

This exceptional skin softening body exfoliation combines sugar crystals with argan oil and milk to gently massage and exfoliate rough skin, and stimulate the micro-circulation. The treatment will rejuvenate your skin, leaving it feeling moisturised, smooth and soft.

Soul Ritual

A modern application of ancient therapies, the Soul Ritual begins with a soothing foot and leg cleanse with exfoliation, followed by a relaxing foot and leg massage encompassing reflexology pressure points.

Crown Ritual

Another modern application of an ancient therapy, the Crown Ritual is a shirodhara-style massage encompassing head, shoulder, neck and décolleté using signature oils.

La Sultane De Saba Silk & Rose Facial

This luxurious treatment combines the fragrance of Rose with the added benefits of Sweet Almond Oil, which will calm and soften the skin, restoring its radiance and refining texture.

Post sun – £50 for 50 minute treatments

La Sultane de Saba Aloe Vera Skin Soothing Ritual

A bamboo and Aloe Vera skin soothing, enveloping massage and face treat for super soft and dreamy skin. Perfect for after lazy days on the beach!

Le Sultane de Saba Malaysian Carrot

A sublime treatment to intensively moisturise your skin. Rich and silky, this delicate oil contains organic Barbary fig oil and organic carotene oil, making it the perfect tan-prolonging oil for sun-kissed skin.

My treatment – La Sultane de Saba Aloe Vera Skin Soothing Ritual (£50 for 50 minutes)

I chose the La Sultane de Saba Aloe Vera Skin Soothing Ritual, as my skin is definitely in need of some TLC.

After filling in a consultation form, my therapist Natalie (great name) led me through to the treatment room. The room was clean and comfortable with soft lighting, and I immediately felt very relaxed. Natalie explained the treatment and then left me to get ready.

Then began 50 minutes of utter bliss! First of all, Aloe Vera oil is massaged in all over your body which is very, very soothing. Then you are wrapped up in foil to encourage the oil to sink in. I felt super cosy and relaxed.

While all that lovely oil is soaking in, you get a mini facial – cleanse, scrub, massage, mask, moisturise – followed by a scalp massage.

This is such a beautiful, relaxing treatment and is brilliant for skin in need of nourishment. It would also be hugely beneficial after sun exposure – so perfect for parched skin as a post-holiday treat.

Aloe vera is THE ingredient for soothing and hydrating your skin. A massage with aloe vera oil will leave your skin absolutely silky soft and nourished. Mine felt amazing afterwards.

I nearly fell asleep during this treatment and I didn’t want it to end! Unfortunately it did, but to soften the blow, you can head to the relaxation room for a bit of chill-out time after your treatment.

Relaxation Room

There are several beds to relax on, and you can help yourself to refreshments such as herbal teas and fruit.

There’s also a well-stocked magazine rack if you fancy a bit of light reading.

Thermal spa

After a bit of down-time, I headed out to the sports centre café for a quick bite to eat and then returned to try out the thermal spa.

You’re given a spa bag which contains a robe, towel, flip flops and padlock for your locker. There was plenty of space in the changing rooms and they were clean.

There’s a large hydrotherapy pool (you know the ones with powerful jets that can massage your back etc.) as well as a sauna, salt room, steam room and more.

I hopped straight into the hydrotherapy pool which felt quite cold at first but once I got into those jets, I soon warmed up!

I then tried each of the rooms. Personally, I just love a scented steam room. The steam really opens up your pores and gives you a great cleanse, and it also helps to soothe aching muscles.

The sauna was lovely too. We’re not going on holiday this year due to moving house, so I closed my eyes in here and pretended I was sunbathing in Majorca. Not quite as good as the real thing, but it’ll have to do!

Unfortunately I couldn’t really take any photos in the thermal spa due to other people using the facilities but it’s a lovely, bright area with a few beds around the pool.

Final thoughts on Spa Experience in Welwyn

Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to Spa Experience in Welwyn and now I know it’s there, I will definitely go back, next time with a few friends.

La Sultane de Saba is new to me as a product range, and I’m quite up on my spa products, so it was nice to try something different to the usual Elemis and Decleor. The treatment was lovely and soothing, and felt like such a treat. Delicious! I left feeling relaxed and recharged.
