We are HUGE fans of silk pillowcases in this household. Even our five-year-old son has declared that cotton is no longer soft enough to sleep on. Oops, what have we created?!! But seriously, silk pillowcases are EVERYTHING.
I’m always on the lookout for silk pillowcases to recommend to you, as they do differ in quality. When Calidad Home offered to send me one of their beautiful silk pillowcases to try, I jumped at the chance.
If you don’t yet own a silk pillowcase, read on to find out why it’s a must-have purchase for a good night’s beauty sleep.
First things first – all silk is not created equal.

The first thing you need to consider when choosing a silk pillow is the quality. As you know, the quality of cotton is measured in threadcount. However silk is measured in momme, which is essentially its weight.
The higher the momme, the better the quality. The mimimum momme you should ever consider buying is 19, so when I found out that the Calidad Home silk pillowcase is a fantastic 22 momme, I was very impressed.
The Calidad Home silk pillowcase is also made from 100% A grade, long strand Mulberry silk, which is considered the best quality silk you can buy, and is the most durable.
Your skin will look and feel better when you wake
Cotton is absorbent – silk is not. So think about it – do you want that uber expensive all-singing all-dancing night cream to stay on your face, or be absorbed into your pillow?
If you sleep on silk, your night cream will stay put and work its wonders so that you can wake up looking like Kendall Jenner. Okay, the Kendall Jenner bit may not be true, but you will definitely wake up with smoother, softer skin and a less crinkly face.
Your morning bedhead won’t be as bad
Silk is smoother than cotton – cotton has more friction to its fibres. So if you have a lot of hair like me that is prone to frizz and tangles, sleeping on silk can make a huge difference.
I find that silk is much kinder to my hair than cotton, and I have definitely noticed less frizz and knots in the morning since switching to silk.
Silk is hypoallergenic
Natural Mulberry silk is made of proteins and is naturally hypoallergenic. Therefore switching to a silk pillowcase could be beneficial if you suffer from sensitive skin conditions like eczema.
You can enjoy a bit of luxury

Silk just feels so much more luxurious than cotton. You remember that Galaxy advert, right? Why have cotton when you can have silk? Well I totally agree!
I know it’s hard to tell from photos but this pillowcase is amazing to touch – I mean, just look at that gorgeous shine! You’ll have to take my word for it – it is truly sumptuous to sleep on.
No handwashing required – whoop!
I don’t know about you but I just don’t have time for faffiing around and handwashing bedding, so I was chuffed to find out that the Calidad Home silk pillowcase can be machine-washed at 30 degrees.
Just pop it in with your delicates and it’ll come out as fresh as a daisy. I wouldn’t recommend tumble-drying it though, just leave it to dry naturally – it won’t take long.
You NEED a silk pillowcase in your life
Honestly, you do. It’s a no-brainer. Anything that helps me to upgrade my beauty sleep and wake up looking half-human is worth it, in my opinion.
Overall, I’m really impressed with the Calidad Home silk pillowcase. At 22 momme Mulberry silk, it’s about the best quality silk pillowcase you’re going to get, and it’s been lovely dealing with a small business too.
